PETER CUSHING: THE MAKING OF A NIGHTMARE TENDRE DRACULA

ASK AN ARDENT PETER CUSHING FAN ABOUT THEIR LEAST  FAVOURITE PETER CUSHING MOVIE AND MAYBE THEY'LL PITCH SOMEWHERE BETWEEN 'THE DEVIL'S MEN' AND 'THE BLOOD BEAST TERROR'.  ONE ABOUT NASTY GOINGS ON IN THE MED AND THE LATER WAS QUOTED BY CUSHING HIMSELF, AS TO BEING NOT, THAT HOT.....

TENDRE DRACULA OR LA GRANDE TROUILL..OR EVEN, CONFESSIONS OF A BLOOD DRINKER WAS MADE IN 1974...AND MORES THE PITY. FOR THE LIKES OF FANS WHO
CONSIDER CUSHING'S AWARD WINNING PERFORMANCE IN THE 1972 TALES FROM THE CRYPT TO BE THE PINNICLE, WITH THE BBC PRODUCTION OF 1984 HOLDING IT'S HAND, TENDRE DRACULA DOESN'T EVEN RATE WITH LADIES IN MOTH SUITS AND BEER BELLIED DEVIL WORSHIPERS IN GREECE. NO, TENDRE DRACULA IS SOMETHING ELSE. FOR ANYONE WHO HAS THE OPPORTUNITY TO VIEW IT, THAT SOMETHING ELSE, IS A SLIPPERY LABEL THAT IS HARD TO LICK AND STICK.

HOW CAN A FILM BE THIS BAD?
HOW CAN A FILM FALL ON SO MANY KNIVES?

NEXT MONTH AT THEBLACKBOXCLUB.COM WEBSITE WE'LL BE PUTTING TOGETHER THE STORY BEHIND 'THE MAKING OF A NIGHTMARE. TENDRE DRACULA. A FEATURE THAT PROMISES TO ANSWER THE QUESTION...

'WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?'

  1. Can't wait to read it! I've always had an odd fascination for this thing...even after seeing clips from it!

  2. I have seen this film and still have a copy which is a bit grainy. I have only watched it once but I must admit I quite enjoyed it although it isn't a fantastic fim by far. I remember seeing photos from the film for the first time in a issue of 'House of Hammer' and had always wanted to see it.

  3. I actually think Blood beast terror is rather nice, old-fashioned monster silliness.

  5. You're right it's a bummer! I'm french and i saw this movie on the big screen at the time!I never understood why cushing did this trash but fun anyway! It was directed by the producer of Claude Berri films, Pierre Grunstein (his only one by the way)! Bernard Menez did another one much better ,this time with Christopher Lee called 'Dracula père et fils'. I've got 'Tender Dracula'in english as well cause in french Cushing was dubbed by this great french actor Jean Rochefort!!
